For translating names to Japanese we use katakana. Katakana preserves the pronunciation and is the option most likely to be recognized as a name. Katakana is the standard way names are translated to Japanese and is how non-Japanese names appear in Japanese dictionaries, newspapers, and encyclopedias.

We also show names translated to Japanese using hiragana which is similar to katakana though it can be more flowing and feminine. The samples for Amy above show two examples in katakana and one example in hiragana and you can see the difference for yourself.
