The Japanese word shoshin is composed of the kanji  (read as "sho") meaning "first time; beginning" and  (read as "shin") meaning "heart; mind; spirit". Shoshin refers to a spirit of eager learning without preconceptions. This is the way to approach the study of anything new and, more importantly, the study of what one is already familiar with.
