The Japanese word senshi is composed of the kanji sen meaning "War" and shi meaning "Gentleman." Senshi does not have a specific connection to Samurai and Bushido and so is often used to translate the words "fighter", "soldier" and "combatant." Also, senshi, as is true with most Japanese words, is not gender specific and so may be used by both men and women.
