Fighter in Japanese is  which is read toushi. The Japanese word toushi is composed of the kanji  (read as "tou") meaning "fight" and  (read as "shi") meaning "gentleman; person". Fighter (toushi) does not have a specific connection to the Samurai (samurai) and Bushido (bushidou) traditions as does Warrior (musha), for example.
